SOLAR ENERGY SOLIDARITY

At PROINSO, we believe solar is becoming central to powering our homes and businesses. We aim to be at the forefront of this energy revolution. Solar Energy Solidarity started in 2011 as a solidarity initiative carried out by PROINSO to embrace social responsibility and commit to providing off-grid communities with the technical tools to use the sun as a source of energy. Six years after launching, Solar Energy Solidarity is aligning with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals with the aim to create a tangible and measurable impact tackling youth unemployment in underprivileged communities promoting social entrepreneurship with a focus on solar.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY PILLARS

HEALTH

Solar powered technology provides clean, safe and reliable energy supply playing thus a vital role in social welfare. By mitigating toxic fume inhalations in communities heavily dependent on fossil fuel consumption, we believe the impact of solar powered technologies is measurable and immediate. We believe that clean and affordable energy supply is key to creating healthier and happier communities.

DEVELOPMENT

Strengthening the informal sector by engaging the youth and aspiring entrepreneurs in enterprise development activities is a way to contribute to community development while bridging the gap of gender inequalities by empowering women as well. Solar Energy Solidarity invites aspiring entrepreneurs, start-ups, business incubators and young professionals with an interest and experience in solar energy generation to join our initiative, send us inquiries and proposals for stewardship and potential partnership.

EDUCATION

Prolonged study-time hours at home as well as in schools are crucial for young populations residing in communities with limited or inexistent power supply. Additional lighting at home may directly impact a child’s performance at school and later success in life. Our portable, mini-PV SM100 solar lights designed for personal use are one way of achieving this goal.

SAFETY

Safety for communities residing in off grid or rural areas worldwide means being able to avoid unnecessary indoor injuries, road accidents and safer mobility from one place to another i.e. from home to a healthcare facility or from school to home.

ENVIRONMENT

In 2016, 173 member countries signed the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Using solar energy and promoting renewables, we reduce fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. We thus contribute to worldwide climate change mitigation and environmental protection efforts.

PROINSO SM100 is an affordable, certified, entry-level solar light. It combines a compact, versatile design with a long lasting lithium iron battery creating a multi-functional light that meets the basic lighting needs of families living off the electric grid.

Implementation of a stable supply of a farm school.

MADJRÉ – COUFFO, BENIN LEPROSY HOSPITAL – 3000 Wp

The execution of a PV installation to cover electricity needs in the leprosy hospital, school and chapel of Madjré.

CANDEMBA – URI, GUINEA BISSAU RADIO STATION – 3080 Wp

Commissioning a local female radio. The radio aims to give voice to women for dissemination of health, hygiene, nutrition and literacy tips.

This research unit is an internationally renowned field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The execution of a PV installation to cover electricity needs of the shelter called “The Foyer” in the city of Porto-Novo, in the country of Benin.

LA MATANZA, PERÚ – 1225 Wp

Rehabilitating a water well, equipped with a solar-powered water pump to facilitate access to drinking water for human and animal consumption.

LAGUNAS , PERÚ – 3520 Wp

Providing power to a hospital and two learning centres for more hours every day through a PV system.

KOULOUNDÉ, TOGO – 1320 Wp

Increasing power supply in two buildings with six classrooms and two school offices by means of a solar PV installation.

LAO KOUNTÉ, TOGO – 1320 Wp

Digging up an 80-m-deep well to extract water using a solar-powered pump, and storing water in an elevated water tank by means of a solar PV facility.
