PROINSO and Tona Syntegra Solar JSC (TSS) Winners of the Asian Power Award 2022 for 6,359 kWp WANEK Furniture Co Rooftop Project

Windsor, United Kingdom and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (December 7, 2022): The Asian Power Awards has announced PROINSO, a global leader in the solar energy market, in partnership with Tona Syntegra Solar JSC (TSS), a turnkey Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor, as winners of the Asian Power Award 2022 in the award category “Environmental Upgrade of the Year” for the 6,359 kWp commercial rooftop solar project in Vietnam.

With the continued rise in demand for renewable energy and the climate crisis pushing harder on the industry, more sustainable models have been the focus for companies in order to continue thriving amidst the challenges. In its 18th year, the Asian Power Awards recognises revolutionary innovations and outstanding initiatives amongst the players in the power industry of Asia.

Nominations for the prestigious awards programme were screened under the meticulous eyes of this year’s expert panel of judges made up of Petteri Harkki, Managing Director, AFRY South-East Asia and AFRY (Thailand); Wen Bin Lim, Director, Infrastructure Advisory, Head of Renewables, KPMG Asia Pacific; Gervasius Samosir, Partner, YCP Solidiance; Mike Thomas, Managing Director, The Lantau Group; and John Yeap, Senior Advisor, Pinsent Masons.

PROINSO, in partnership with Tona Syntegra Solar JSC (TSS), has carried out a beautiful project located in the Binh Duong Province named WANEK. The 6,359 kWp system, owned by the world’s leading furniture firm WANEK FURNITURE COMPANY, is expected to produce an average of 8902 MWh within the first year and will offset around 5036 tCO2 per year. With the Rooftop Solar PV System, the WANEK factories were energized with cheaper and cleaner energy and reduced carbon footprint.

WANEK is a subsidiary of ASHLEY FURNITURE – the world largest Furniture Company, the WANEK 2 and WANEK 3 factories specialize in cutting & sewing leather/fabric upholstery kits and producing furniture components.

The project was constructed by Tona Syntegra Solar in 14 weeks with the integration of the most up-to date technologies of an advanced PV RTS system and delivered on budget to a high customer satisfaction and differentiated by the environmental and socially responsible approach of both partners – PROINSO and TSS. 50 units of Sunny Tripower CORE2 110kW inverter high performance were used which are arguably the most technologically important part of a solar energy system as they are needed to process the energy collected by solar panels and deliver electricity to the grid. SMA was selected due to the technological, operating, and warranty excellence.

Also, to meet WANEK’s FM Global requirements, the WANEK Solar Rooftop Project is the largest solar system equipped with Tigo Energy’s rapid shutdown solution in Vietnam reducing voltage at the module level upon grid power loss or rapid shutdown initiation within 30 seconds and fully complying with National Electrical Code (NEC) 2017/2020. TSS worked closely with Tigo Energy on the detailed implementation of the RSS Transmitters using PLC (Powerline Communication) for rapid shutdown.

A zero-export controller was also installed for the system at a medium voltage to share power among different transformers, and the maximizing solar electricity usage for the factory’s needswhile always being grid-connected. The SMA ennexOS allows the system in WANEK to achieve real-time and on-demand energy management with holistic approach and highly comprehensive and accurate data such as cost, revenue, energy consumption, and environmental impacts.

Another unique aspect of the project was the hybrid controller allowing the PV system to operate with the Genset generators during grid power outages to minimize fuel consumption.

This project was also Finalists in three categories at the ‘Energy Awards 2022’ including Project of the Year (Commercial and Industrial).
